Scrapbook Design Idea | Cluster at the End of a Rainbow

Creating clusters makes me happy. Like really, really happy. The detail, the dimension just gets me right in the happiness bone!

Supplies used - Cardstock: American Crafts; Patterned paper, flowers, hearts, word/phrase pieces: Cocoa Vanilla; Nuvo Drops: Tonic Studios; Embroidery floss: DMC; Computer font: Foam adhesive: Scrapbook Adhesives

I especially love the design concept of creating a cluster at the end of a rainbow. Most often we probably think that clouds are the appropriate embellishment to cluster there, but really there's so many shapes and themes you could use!

I opted to go with flowers. Cocoa Vanilla always has the most amazing flower die cuts with their collections that are so perfect for clustering together. They have the perfect mix of color, shapes, sizes, and mix in some leaves and branches too.

Whenever I am creating clusters like this (and really this applies to any cluster) I always start by laying the pieces out first, before I adhere anything down. Here are the steps I take:

  1. Lay out the largest shapes to build a base.

  2. Add in some medium and smaller size shapes to fill in a few gaps.

  3. Use longer shapes like vines, leaves, flourishes, etc. to accent the cluster.

  4. Use foam adhesive to add some small shapes all over the design.

  5. Finish with tiny details like Nuvo Drops, enamel dots, punched shapes, etc.

The next time you are working with a large rainbow design, try adding a cluster at one (or both) ends. Try clouds, stars, hearts, flowers, or photos.
