Sketch Support #41 | Learn How to Use and Adapt Scrapbook Sketches | Day 1

Writer's picture: AllisonAllison

Once a month learn how to use scrapbook sketches and adapt them to fit different styles, photo sizes, and themes. Sketches = endless scrapbooking ideas with little effort. Sketches do all the heavy lifting allowing you to have all the fun!

The Sketch Support fun starts today! That means a new free sketch, three new layouts based on the sketch, a YouTube video, and of course the bonus sketch examples!

This new two-page sketch is one that I've been so excited to share and create with!

Here is the two-page sketch that I'll be using this week:

You can also grab the Sketch Support #41 Bonus Sketch Examples!

This month it is a 3-page PDF of 22 different sketch options. That makes 23 sketches for this month of Sketch Support. There are options that show how to change up the papers, use more photos, use less photos, there are three one-page options, and then an 8-1/2 x 11" option. The fun part is that you could use each option as a layout on its own, but you could also mix and match different options for endless possibilities!

Supplies used - Cardstock: American Crafts; Patterned paper: Echo Park; Stickers: Echo Park and Simple Stories; Droplet cut file: Silhouette Design Store #74845; Embroidery floss: DMC; Computer font: Avenir Next

Variation #1 - Changing the sunburst design to a themed element.

After experiencing a week of snow and extremely cold temperatures I decided to visit the beach in my scrapbook room. I loved the idea of turning that sunburst design into a big splash design!

I used my Silhouette to cut out several large droplets in a variety of colors and patterns and then arranged them to resemble a big splash. I also added lots of stitching to really highlight that droplet shape of each piece.

Variation #2 - Adding an extra photo.

With this set of photos I had three 2-1/2 x 3-1/2" photos that fit quite well in the same space as the two 3 x 5" photos on the sketch. This was an easy swap since there's really a lot of space available for photos on the left side. You could really use a large variety of photos in that space.

Variation #3 - Changing the photo block.

On the right page I made a big change to the photo block. I used six 5 x 3" photos and then adapted the journaling to work with that.

One of the things I love about large photo blocks on layouts is that they are easy to adapt to different sizes or arrangements dependent on what photos you are using. I decided to arrange the six photos in one large block and removed the background piece. Then I added a few small splash clusters to add a little detail to the photo block.

That's all for today! Be sure to check back tomorrow for another layout!
