Sketch Support #41 | Learn How to Use and Adapt Scrapbook Sketches | Day 2

Writer's picture: AllisonAllison

Once a month learn how to use scrapbook sketches and adapt them to fit different styles, photo sizes, and themes. Sketches = endless scrapbooking ideas with little effort. Sketches do all the heavy lifting allowing you to have all the fun!

Here is the two-page sketch that I'll be using this week:

This month it is a 3-page PDF of 22 different sketch options. That makes 23 sketches for this month of Sketch Support. There are options that show how to change up the papers, use more photos, use less photos, there are three one-page options, and then an 8-1/2 x 11" option. The fun part is that you could use each option as a layout on its own, but you could also mix and match different options for endless possibilities!

Supplies used - Cardstock: American Crafts; Patterned paper, stickers, and foam embellishments: American Crafts, Shimelle; Heart punches: Recollections; Camera cut file: Scrapbook Generation; Embroidery floss: DMC; Computer font: Century Gothic

Variation #1 - Adding a large die cut.

For the most I followed the sketch really closely, with the exception of the left page. I had been working on new cut files for March and this camera design felt so perfect for this sketch design. I loved the idea of using it as the center meeting point for all of the sunburst strips.

I added an extra photo to the center of the heart and then added various patterned papers to back the die cut. There was a striped paper from the AC Shimelle collections I used that was perfect for the diagonal stripes. To help highlight the details of the camera die cut I also added a stitched border in a high contrast color.

Variation #2 - Using smaller photos.

The other change I made to the left page was using two smaller photos in place of the 3 x 5" photos. With the camera die cut taking up so much space I needed to reduce the size of the photos to fit. The only photo I had left for that space was a 6 x 4" photos but it worked out well that I could cut it into two 2-1/2 x 3-1/2" photos and overlap them.

The rest of the layout follows the sketch almost exactly. I was surprised that I had photos already printed that were exact to the photos on the right page! It was destiny that these photos were used for this sketch!

That's it for today! Be sure to check back tomorrow for layout #3!
